I enjoy helping students navigate their high school academics and career goals. Many students need direction and guidance when it comes to their education or plans for the future. I'm able to mentor students, provide support, and give them the tools they need to make the decisions that best fit their needs. I receive so much joy when I'm able to witness students complete the task they set, such as graduation from high school, pursuing a higher education, or obtaining the career/job that they worked hard for.
I've always wanted to help others. I worked in mental health for a number of years and provided counseling to children. My love for education came, when I began teaching college courses part-time and many of the students I came in contact with, were on the wrong path. I love being able to work as a career coach for high school students and lay out the paths early on. This allows students to make the right choice for them in the beginning, rather than waiting until the middle or end of their journey to realize they are on the wrong one.
I have been impacted by many teachers, but the most impactful would have to be my internship instructor in grad school. I was given the opportunity to give her my top choices of where I desired to be placed for my internship. I was also given the opportunity to identify the areas in which I didn't want to be placed. I received my internship placement and it happened to be at a place that was on my "did not desire" list. I was really confused and complained to her that she got it all wrong. When she sat me down she explained the importance of having me experience an intern/job opportunity that I would never have planned for myself in order to make a better decision without having a closed off mind. She wanted me to experience stepping outside my comfort zone. The internship that I fell in love with, just happened to be the internship that I was the most hesitant to participate in.
I enjoy spending time with my husband and children. We love attending church and being involved in our church activities. My children are involved in many extracurricular activities such as basketball, football, and softball. I also have a love for softball and coaching, so the majority of my time is spent on the fields.
